Aegis Investment Management, LLC is an independently owned and managed Registered Investment Adviser (RIA). When you work with Aegis, you are working with professionals who have a direct, personal, and long-term stake in growing and protecting your wealth. We serve as a family investment counseling office, providing a wide range of services that involve the coordination of financial issues such as tax planning, life and long-term care insurance, estate planning and distribution, charitable giving, and retirement planning.
Aegis is a RIA and therefore falls under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, which wrote into statutory law the fiduciary duty owed by investment advisors to their clients. The 1940 Act established what is commonly referred to as “the fiduciary standard.” A fiduciary relationship exists whenever one person trusts in or relies upon another. In this instance, we are talking about the relationship between an investment manager and his/her client.
As a fiduciary, there are various duties we owe to our clients:
- Duty of Loyalty – looking to the client’s best interest is the fundamental duty owed to the client.
- Duty of Care – conducting ourselves faithfully and exercising sound discretion.
- Duty to Disclose – communicating all material facts and all conflicts of interest.
- Duty to Diagnose – “knowing our customer” and assessing the suitability of investments.
- Duty to Consult – collaborating with subject matter experts as needed, e.g. estate attorneys.
- Duty to Keep Current – maintaining sound understanding of investments and financial advising.
